A six weeks Holiday Workshop for students and pupils was organised to build capacities on entrepreneurial skills in Jewellery production and
Traditional Embroidery alongside modules on issues of general concern and knowledge. These additional modules included the following-
Violence/Gender-Based Violence (GBV):
This was in reference to the abuse people suffer on a daily basis because of their sex (gender). This module covered violence in general, the types of gender based violence and how these affect the community negatively. They were made to understand that GBV is violence directed against a person because of his/her gender and expectations of his or her role in the society or culture. The participants were also sensitised on basic hygiene and sanitation.
Appropriate and Inappropriate Behaviour:
Appropriate behaviour refers to attitudes, actions and moral conducts that are appreciated and acceptable in the society while inappropriate behaviour is that which is at variance with societal norms. It was realized that Inappropriate behaviour, Abuse, Child trafficking, Rape, Anger usually result in some form of violence.
Abuse:
The participants were exposed to aspects of abuse
– Abuse to self i.e. through drugs, smoking, piercing/scarification etc.
– Abuse to God and parents through disobedience and
– Abuse to others- Here the pain is felt by someone else.
Child Trafficking and Rape:
The aim was to create awareness to students and pupils of such practices and update them with suggested tips on how to avoid becoming victims.
Anger and Anger management:
Had to do with various ways to identify perspectives and backgrounds of persons which in a way affect their attitudes towards others(us). In this way many hurting circumstances can be tolerated. The learners agreed that anger is destructive and could end up in abuse. The summary was thus that forgiveness was paramount in anger management. This would be guarantee to live peacefully in the society or community with their peers and families.
Importance of Peace in the Communities:
The objectives were to promote peace in the classroom with peers, neighborhood, community and society, peaceful coexistence and development.
Talent /Skills acquisition and Entrepreneurship:
Our main goal here was to let the participants know their God -given talents and how to work on those talents to produce tangible items and also market them.
The Mayor, Proprietor of Billie and Scott Nursery, Primary and Secondary School (provided the premises) and Chairman Lumpsum Quarter Council.
